Update 21: Tropical Cyclone Fina

Welfare Recovery Centre

A Welfare Recovery Centre is now open at Marrara Indoor Stadium located at 10 Abala Road, Marrara to provide a single access point for practical support, information, and referrals.

The Centre is open from 8:30am – 4pm daily until Sunday 30 November.

You can access a range of support through the Centre, including:

  • psycho-social and wellbeing support
  • connect people with emergency relief services for items such as food and essential supplies
  • food and water safety information
  • support for culturally diverse communities, including help navigating services and linking with insurance
  • information about available financial support including processing applications for eligible people.

Schools

Government schools

All government school are open, with the exception of Middle Point School which will reopen upon essential services being restored.

Schools are communicating with families through their usual channels.

Non-government schools update

The following non-government schools remain closed:

  • Tiwi College, Melville Island - No estimated time for reopening at this stage.
  • Xavier College, Bathurst Island - Expected to reopen Thursday 27 November 2025.
  • Milkwood Steiner School, Darwin/Palmerston - No estimated time for reopening at this stage.

Early childhood education and care services

The following are closed Wednesday 26 November 2025:

  • Dragonfly Play & Learn.

Confirmed to open Wednesday 26 November 2025:

  • Haileybury Rendall Early Learning Centre.

The following services will advise their families directly of their reopening:

  • Milestones Early Learning Wagaman
  • Milkwood Steiner After School Care
  • Milkwood Steiner Preschool
  • Goodstart Early Learning Wulagi
  • Camp Australia Marrara Christian College
  • Camp Australia Haileybury Rendall School OSHC.

Roads

Waste management

Shoal Bay is closed to residents. For more information go to City of Darwin website.

Litchfield Waste Transfer Stations are open and operating as normal, with the exception of Humpty Doo. Humpty Doo is accepting green waste but not commercial until power is restored. To stay up-to-date visit Litchfield Council website.

The Archer Waste Management facility is open to the public. For more information go to City of Palmerston website.

You can drop off green waste only at the Hidden Valley Raceway carpark until 5 pm Sunday 30 November.

Normal rubbish bin collections by councils are operating as normal.

Power outages

Power and Water crews have restored power to 19,060 customers.

Around 840 households in the Darwin region remain without power, and crews are continuing to reduce that number.

We understand that this is just that frustrating for those without power, but the crews are working around the clock to get everyone reconnected as soon as they can.

Gunn Point and Lee Point roads are the focus for today.

Parks

Many parks and reserves remain closed due to debris and high-water levels.  Casuarina Coastal Reserve was highly impacted in terms of fallen trees.

Rapid assessments have now been undertaken on all parks and reserves, with priority works identified focusing on public safety.

As key sites open, social media and the department website will be updated. Wangi will remain closed for swimming for the remaining wet season however Florence Falls, Buley Rockhole and the Upper Cascades are expected to open once able.

Howard Springs Nature Park remains closed due to power outage.

Garig Gunak Barlu on the Cobourg Peninsula is still not assessed as the airstrip is not yet accessible.  Plans are being established to undertake an assessment on Monday via helicopter if possible.

The department has been in contact with both Tourism Top End and Hospitality NT to understand impacts to industry.

Territory Wildlife Park

The Territory Wildlife Park is still closed as our team works hard to clean up after Cyclone Fina.

We are happy to confirm every one of our animals are safe and sound.

George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens

The Botanic Gardens will remain closed while staff carry out essential safety assessments across the site.

For your safety, please avoid the area while this work is underway.
