Donating goods for emergencies
During and after floods and other emergencies, many people want to help those affected.
Community generosity is greatly appreciated and plays an important role in supporting recovery.
Evacuation centres cannot accept donations
Evacuation centres, emergency shelters and welfare recovery centres cannot accept donations from the public.
While it may seem helpful to bring food, clothing or other items directly to evacuation centres, emergency shelters or welfare recovery centres, these locations are not equipped to receive or manage public donations.
These sites are focused on providing immediate support to evacuees and do not have the facilities to receive, store or manage donated goods.
Food and essential supplies for these centres are coordinated through established procurement and distribution processes to ensure safety, quality and consistency.
Thank you for your generosity and support for communities affected by flooding.
Donate through charities
If you would like to support people affected by emergencies, the best way to help is to donate through established charitable organisations.
Charitable organisations have systems in place to safely receive, sort and distribute donated goods to people who need them.
Organisations that may accept donations include:
- Australian Red Cross
- The Salvation Army
- St Vincent de Paul Society
- Foodbank NT
- other registered community organisations.
Before you donate
Each organisation has different requirements and may only accept certain items depending on current needs and storage capacity.
Before dropping off any donations, contact the organisation directly to confirm what they can accept.
