Alice Springs severe weather update

Tuesday 13 October 2026 | 10 am

Severe thunderstorms brought damaging winds and large hailstones to Alice Springs and surrounding areas on Monday 12 October, causing widespread damage to homes, businesses, roads and essential infrastructure.

Emergency services and Power and Water crews continue to respond to storm-related incidents, with additional resources deployed to support recovery and power restoration.

Approximately 4,000 customers remain without power, with restoration works expected to continue over several days due to extensive damage to the electricity network.

For the latest outage information, go to the Power and Water website.

The Southern Emergency Operations Centre has been activated to coordinate the response. Community safety remains the priority.

Residents are urged to:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in areas affected by fallen trees and damaged infrastructure.
  • Stay well clear of fallen powerlines and treat all electrical infrastructure as live.
  • Follow advice from emergency services and monitor official updates.
  • Check school operating arrangements before travelling.
  • Check on vulnerable family members and neighbours where safe to do so.
