Countering violent extremism

Violent extremism is acts of or support for violence to achieve social, political or legal outcomes or in response to specific political or social grievances. The Northern Territory Government is committed to addressing all forms of violent extremism through prevention, early support and community partnerships.

Countering violent extremism (CVE) aims to reduce violent extremism by providing early intervention and support to individuals to address social, psychological or behavioural issues. It also focusses on building community cohesion, resilience and preparedness.

Step Together is a national initiative to help individuals and communities build resilience against violent extremism. Visit the Step Together website to find out more about:

  • what is violent extremism
  • how to recognise the signs of violent extremism
  • how to stay safe online
  • what you can do if you think someone might need support.

Step Together offers support and advice for:

  • family and friends
  • teachers and educators
  • parents and carers
  • community.
