The community is experiencing localised flooding and is currently isolated, with no road access.
Palumpa was fully evacuated to Darwin, where residents are accommodated at Marrara Indoor Stadium.
Welfare support
Residents from Palumpa are being supported by the Department of Children and Families (DCF) Welfare Group. Evacuation temporary accommodation has now been established in Batchelor, providing safer, more sustainable living arrangements as flood recovery continues.
Financial assistance will be provided to eligible residents from the evacuation temporary accommodation, administered by DCF.
School
Nganmarriyanga School will remain closed until the community is repatriated.
Students from Nganmarriyanga School are attending pop-up schools in Darwin and Palmerston.
Boil water alert lifted
- The boil water alert (Advice No 1) provided on 6 March 2026 at 3:30pm for Palumpa (Nganmarriyanga) is cancelled.
- The water supply system in Palumpa is now working properly, and the water is safe to drink.
- Water quality test results from samples collected on the 27 April 2026 show that the water is free of any bacteria.
