Update 2: Tropical Cyclone Fina
As of 1:09am ACST on Friday 21 November 2025, the Northern Territory Emergency Service has issued updated alerts for Tropical Cyclone Fina.
Fina is a category 1 cyclone with sustained winds near 75km/h and gusts up to 100km/h. It is located about 355 to 360km northeast of Darwin and 125 to 135km north-northeast of Minjilang, moving slowly south.
The system is expected to strengthen to category 2 on Friday while tracking southwest. Late Friday, Fina is forecast to approach the Cobourg Peninsula and Tiwi Islands, then move southwest through the Van Diemen Gulf on Saturday.
Fina may intensify further to a severe tropical cyclone (category 3) late Friday or early Saturday as it moves into the Van Diemen Gulf, and is forecast to become severe in the southern Timor Sea by Sunday afternoon.

School closures
The Chief Minister has declared the following schools will be closed from Friday 21 November 2025 until further notice:
- Milikapiti School
- Pularumpi School (Pirlangimpi)
- Warruwi School
- Mamaruni School (Minjilang).
Non-government schools on the Tiwi Islands will provide status updates or can be contacted directly to confirm their status.
Carers of school-aged children and vulnerable residents should now be released to attend to their carer responsibilities.
