TC Trevor recovery assistance

Immediate relief assistance payments:

  1. As part of disaster assistance arrangements announced by the Commonwealth and Northern Territory governments, immediate relief assistance payments can be paid to people evacuated as a result of Tropical Cyclone Trevor.
  2. Payments have been approved for people evacuated from Groote Eylandt, Numbulwar, Ngukurr, Borooloola and surrounding communities, Baniyala, Corella Creek, Robinson River and that were registered at an evacuation centre.
  3. Self-evacuees who left under their own means and did not register at an evacuation centre are not eligible to receive relief payments unless there is a record of departure.
  4. These residents will be eligible for relief payments from their community after arrival.
  5. Payments will be considered for other evacuated communities when repatriation is confirmed.
  6. Payments will be made to a debit credit card and include $503 for adults (any person over the age of 18 and any person aged 16 and over who lives independently) and $254 per child with a maximum assistance payment of $1266 per family.
  7. Territory Families staff will be conducting eligibility assessments and approving and processing payments at health clinics in each community.
  8. The payments are designed to give people who were evacuated from their community as part of the emergency response to Tropical Cyclone Trevor support to purchase food, clothing, personal and essential items.
  9. The debit card is restricted and cannot be redeemed for cash or used for alcohol, gambling or adult entertainment. It will be valid for 30 days from date of issue.

Eligibility criteria:

  1. Immediate relief assistance payments have been approved for people evacuated from Groote Eylandt, Numbulwar, Ngukurr, Borooloola and surrounding communities, Baniyala, Corella Creek, Robinson River and that were registered at an evacuation centre.
  2. Relief payments are for residents evacuated from these communities only.
  3. Self-evacuees who left under their own means and did not register at an evacuation centre are not eligible to receive relief payments unless there is a record of departure.
  4. Criteria for immediate relief assistance payments considered:
    • the emergency requirement for people to be evacuated
    • the inconvenience of being evacuated and displaced from home
    • the number of days people have been required to remain at evacuation centres
