Stand Out Emergency Volunteers Acknowledged
NTES members at the 2012 Northern Territory Volunteer of the Year Awards in Alice Springs.Seven volunteer members of the Northern Territory’s Fire and Rescue Service (NTFRS) and Emergency Service (NTES) were acknowledged for their contribution to keeping the public safe at the 2012 Northern Territory Volunteer of the Year Awards.
Dyaane Allport, Captain of the NTFRS’ Adelaide River Fire Emergency Response Group, received the Chief Minister's Medal for Volunteering Service. Dyaane has served with the NTFRS and NTES for 16 years during which time she has carried out key duties including responding to emergencies, training, maintenance and recruitment.
Six volunteer NTES members from across the Territory were also awarded the Most Valuable Volunteer Certificate in recognition of their contributions to helping the community:
- Gary Baker – Arnhem Region
- Ron Green – Katherine
- Andrew McKay – Darwin
- Michelle Thomas – Alice Springs
- Selwyn Kloeden – Hermannsburg
- Phil Merry – Barkly Region
Now in its second year, the 2012 Volunteer of the Year Awards were held in Darwin on 16 May and in Alice Springs on 23 May and recognised the contribution volunteers make for the benefit of the community.
